The taste of Laos motorcycle tour is a chance to explore Laos – land of a million elephants is well-known of its wild and secure charming. There are so many things that you can do in this country for such a memorial holiday. We will start from Luang Prabang – The UNESCO Heritage Site, discover the Nam Ou river by kayaking, and motorbiking through out rural area of Xieng Khoang plateau.

This tour is only available for group from 5 up.

ITINERARY

Day 01. Arrival in Luang Prabang

Upon arrival at Luang Prabang airport, you will meet by our driver who will transfer you to the town to check in to your hotel and have relaxed time.

Day 02-03. Nam Ou Kayaking 2 days

+/ Day 1: Luang Prabang – Huay Leuang – Ban Sibounhom – Ban Had Kham

Kayaking starts in the Khmu village of Ban Houayleuang, 1 and half hour drive north of Luang Prabang. After an introduction to paddling and the basics of kayaking, we will encounter up to 5 easy rapids in the first hour.
Along the way, the village of Ban Sibounhom is visited. This Khmu village on the eastern riverbank is one of the few remaining without electricity and direct road access (route 13).
A picnic lunch is prepared on a white sand bank set in beautiful scenery. After a relaxing break and a swim, the afternoon is spent paddling in a calmer section of the Nam Ou.
There’s plenty of time to watch the villagers fishing and harvesting river weed in and along the Nam Ou. The day of kayaking ends by the bridge of route 13, near the village of Ban Somsanouk or Had Kham, the Lowland village. This is where we over night.

+/ Day 2: Ban Had Kham – Pak Ou – Ban Xang Hai – Luang Prabang

After an over-night at the village of Ban Somsanook or Had kham, the scenery of the Nam Ou gets more and more dramatic, with limestone cliffs bordering the river. (It takes 2 hours to Buddha cave).
At the confluence of the Nam Ou and the Mekong lie the highly venerated Pak Ou Caves: two temple caves by the river, filled with hundreds of Buddha statues. 1 hour paddling further down the Mekong takes us to the village of Ban Xanghai. Here, the production of lau lao (Lao whisky) and lau hai (Lao wine) is demonstrated… of course, you should try some!
From Ban Xanghai, either a songthew will pick up the group or, if fit and ambitious, you can paddle all the way back to Luang Prabang.

Day 04. Riding from Luang Prabang to Vieng Thong (266 km)

It’s time for a little off-roader. We leave Luang Prabang and start on a compacted dirt road that wind along a river. It gets steep and the views are fantastic. After taking a simple picnic lunch at Ban Sam Sum we ride on a paved and beautiful road (No.1) shaded by forest canopy and with almost no traffic to Vieng Thong.

Day 05. Riding from Vieng Thong to Phonsavanh (202 km)

After breakfast, we ride in isolated mountain areas and today’s destination is the Plain of Jars of Xieng Khuang province. This area is still heavily mined and remnants of the Indochina war can be seen everywhere even though the war ended long time ago. We explore Site 1 of the Plain and go back to Phonsavan before dark.

Day 06. Riding from Phonsavanh – Paksan (199 km)

An early departure will be needed! The tough ride today is taking you through remote areas. It’s hard to find a place to eat. A simple picnic lunch with sticky rice and laap will keep your stomach fuel right. It’s a rugged ride and the night in Paksan Hotel will refresh your bones. We have dinner at local river restaurant.

Day 07. Riding from Paksan – Phou Khao Khauy – Vientiane (176km)

We will start riding about 50km to Ban Thabok, and from here we will turn right to continues to visit Phou Khao Khuay NPA, to spend the time for swimming at Tad Xay waterfall.
In the afternoon we ride on road No. 13 to back to Vientiane for 90 km.

Day 08. Departure from Vientiane

Free time until time for transfer to airport.
