Blog

The MotoTours Asia blog is where our lead crew writes down what thirty years of long-distance riding has taught us: which route suits which season, how to prepare the bike and the rider, what to eat where no menu is in English, and how a multi-week ride ends safely.

The nine articles here fall into four groups: Vietnamese routes — why we avoid the main highways and look for small mountain roads; long journeys — Tibet, and Lunar New Year on two wheels; food on the road — Tibetan and Yunnan cooking; and how we work — safety, responsible tourism, and the thinking behind the company.

What are these articles based on?

On tours we have actually run. Every route mentioned here is one MotoTours Asia leads, most of them several times a year. We write down the details only a rider who has been there knows: where the signal drops, which passes close in which month, which roadside stop is worth the stop.
