1. Tashkent – Samarkand, Uzbekistan (300km)
The journey to explore Central Asia starting from Tashkent, Uzbekistan begins
Today’s journey is quite easy on the road, part of the Silk Road to Samarkand
2. Samarkand, Uzbekistan
Coming to Central Asia, we cannot miss the ancient city of Sarmarkand, learn about the time of Alexander Makedonsky, the occupation period of the great Chingyz Khan and Timur the Lame, where there is a mixture of many different cultures. In 2001, Samarkand was included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. We will not be able to miss places such as Gur-Amir mausoleum, Registan square, Bib-Khanum mosque, Samarkand market…
3. Samarkand – Fann Mountains, Tajikistan, (200 km)
Goodbye Uzbekistan, go through immigration procedures to Tajikistan, the country of majestic rivers and mountains. This is the poorest and most backward country in Central Asia but has the friendliest and most hospitable people.
We will run through the new mountain tunnel of Shahriston Pass (3378 meters), which is a shortcut to the Fann Mountains. Some sections of the route follow rugged mountain roads, small, beautiful Tajik villages will be the highlight of today.
4. Fann Mountains – Dushanbe (160 km/99 miles)
In the morning, admire the scenery of Alauddin Lake with a beautiful view of the Fann Mountains. Then, continue the journey down the mountain. The road to Dushanbe will take us to the 5 km long Anzob tunnel, built inside the Gissar Range in 1980. This is a rather outdated tunnel with darkness and cold that will be a brain teaser for us.
Arrive in Dushanbe, the capital of Tajikistan, visit the national museum to learn about the culture and history of Tajikistan. Visit the city square with the tallest flag that was recorded in the Guinness Book of Records as the tallest flagpole in the world in 2011.
5. Dushanbe – Kalaikhumb (360 km/224 miles)
Today’s exploration will take us to the Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region (GBAO). This afternoon, we will drive along the Afghan border along the Panj River, which is a natural border between Tajikistan and Afghanistan, on the other side of the river are Afghan villages, where Afghan people have lived here for hundreds of years.
Take part in a traditional bathing ritual under the Ali waterfall, which cascades down a 40-meter-high rock.
6. Kalaikhumb – Khorugh (240 km / 149 miles)
Starting today, we embark on a journey to conquer the legendary Pamir Highway (M41), which was built in the 1930s under the Soviet Union to develop the Pamir region. This is one of the most unique roads in the world that traverses the rugged terrain.
The journey will take us through many Kislak villages of Tajikistan and with a full-day journey along the Afghan border, it will be an unforgettable experience when meeting friendly and hospitable people.

7. Khorugh – Bibi Fatima Hot Springs (Yamchun) (180 km / 112 miles)
Continuing along the border with Afghanistan, the Pamir road follows the steep slopes of the mountains along the Panj River. Conquer the Yamchun Fortress and reach an altitude of 3,200 meters. This is the initial feeling when climbing to this height to prepare for the journey to over 4,000m of the Pamir valley.
Explore the wonderful scenery of the Afghan valley called Wakhan and bathe in the sacred waters of Bibi Fatima Hot Springs.
8. Bibi Fatima Hot Springs (Yamchun) – Murghab (260 km / 162 miles)
Go up the Pamir plateau to the Murghab kishlak, the heart of the Pamir high mountains, where we will have to get used to the altitude of 4,000 meters above sea level with the Hargush passes at 4,344 m and Nazaitash at 4,137 m, explore the Alichur valley with funny yaks.
9. Murghab – Osh, Kyrgyzstan (420 km / 261 miles)
The journey of discovery continues on the Pamir Highway! Get ready to overcome the highest passes of the USSR and Central Asia: Ak Baital Pass at 4,655 m and Kyzyl-Art Pass at 4,280 m. From the slopes, we admire the famous Lenin Peak at 7,134 m.
Say goodbye to Pamir and Tajikistan to the warm and sunny country of Kyrgyzstan, stopping at the city of Osh located in the middle of the Fergana Valley. The ancient city of Osh was once on the Silk Road and this is the second most populous city in Kyrgyzstan after the capital Bishkek.
10. Osh – Tashkent, Uzbekistan (400km)
Saying goodbye to Kyrgystan to complete the entry procedures to Uzbekistan, we will depart early to be in time to return to Tashkent before the evening
