“A restful journey, but full of experience, on the Nậm Ou!” I joined the four-day, three-night tour exploring the Nậm Ou river and was very impressed. I first chose it because I wanted days of genuinely drifting on the water, but I got far more than that. Sitting in the boat between towering rock walls, feeling the cool wind, watching the sun sink into deep water… truly restful and peaceful. The local guide was extremely enthusiastic, told fascinating stories about the culture, took the group into the villages, showed us brocade weaving and forest-leaf tea — thoroughly Lao. Each evening we stayed in a riverside homestay and woke to birdsong and early mist — a wonderful piece of nature. Everyone in the group was happy with the service: good food, warm places to sleep, an attentive guide. If you are looking for something gentle, close to nature, with strong local colour, this tour is a great choice! The nights were a little cool and took some getting used to at first, but that too became part of what made it memorable.
